Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions we hear most from our Harrisonburg and Shenandoah Valley patients.
Are you accepting new patients?
Yes. You and your whole family are welcome at our Harrisonburg practice, whatever your age. Whether you are a longtime Valley resident or brand new to the area, we would love to be your dental home. Call the office or use the online contact form to set up your first appointment, and we will find a time that fits your schedule.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Bring a valid photo ID, your dental insurance card if you have one, a list of any medications you take, and your completed new patient forms. If you have recent X-rays from a previous dentist, you do not have to chase them down, we are glad to request those records on your behalf.
Do you accept my dental insurance?
Your insurance is welcome here. We work with most major plans, including Delta Dental, Cigna, MetLife, Aetna, United Healthcare, and many more. Before your appointment, our front desk team verifies your benefits so you know what to expect with no guesswork. If you do not see your plan listed, give us a call and we will check it for you.
What if I do not have dental insurance?
You are just as welcome without a dental plan, and our self-pay rates are straightforward. You can also spread treatment over time with CareCredit financing, which breaks the cost into manageable monthly payments. Before any work begins, you will get a clear cost estimate so there are no surprises.
How often should I visit the dentist?
For most people, a cleaning and checkup every six months keeps small issues from turning into big ones. If you have a history of gum disease or other concerns, you may do better coming in a little more often. At your visit, your dentist will suggest a schedule that fits your mouth and your life, not a one-size-fits-all rule.
Do you offer emergency dental appointments?
Yes. We hold time open in the daily schedule for emergencies, because pain should not have to wait. If you have severe tooth pain, a broken tooth, a knocked-out tooth, or any other urgent problem, call us right away and we will do everything we can to see you the same day.
Is teeth whitening safe?
Yes, when it is done with your dentist's guidance. Our in-office and take-home whitening use professional-strength products that are gentler on your enamel (the hard outer layer of your tooth) than many drugstore kits. Your dentist checks your teeth first to make sure whitening is the right fit for you before you start.
What age should my child first visit the dentist?
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry suggests bringing your child in by their first birthday, or within six months of their first tooth coming in, whichever happens first. These early, low-pressure visits help your little one feel at home in the chair and let us keep an eye on how their smile is developing.
I'm nervous about the dentist. How will you help me feel comfortable?
You are not alone, and there is no judgment here. We move at your pace and explain every step before it happens, so nothing catches you off guard. You will have a stop signal you can use to pause at any time, and warm blankets, neck pillows, and headphones are here for you. Just tell us when you book that the dentist makes you nervous, and we will build extra time and a slower pace into your visit.
How can I schedule an appointment?
You can call our Harrisonburg office at (540) 280-0179 during business hours, or fill out the contact form on our website and we will reach back out. Once your visit is set, you will get a friendly reminder before the day arrives.
